AUDITION
FOR THE 2010-2011 CHORAL SEASON

Rehearsals begin Thursday, September 2nd.

****Preparatory Choir****
If you have a 6 - 7 year old who loves to sing (and who can meet from
5:15 - 6:10 on Thursdays during the year) please indicate that interest to Vicki.  There are many offerings in the early childhood department of Make A Joyful Noise that are most appropriate for 6 - 7 year olds, and all classes involve singing, movement, instrument playing and even learning keyboard/piano skills.  However, I would love to also offer a preparatory section of the choir - so if you have a child between 6 and 7 who can't stop singing - let me know!  I've had a couple of folks interested and will start a preparatory section in September if enough are interested!

Community Choir:  August 28th, 2010 - May 2011

7 - 15 year olds

Mondays or Thursdays: 6:15 - 7:30

$350 Plus uniform costs (includes additional Saturday sessions

Any interested singer is welcome to attend the Community Choir.  An audition is necessary only to determine the singer's strengths. Unison singing is emphasized to develop a unified sound and lay the foundation for in-tune partner singing and introductory two-part singing.

Chamber Ensemble: August 2010 - May 2011

10 - 15 year olds

Mondays or Thursdays: 6:15 - 8:00

$425 Plus uniform costs

(CE singers participate with the Community Choir then continue after the CC has finished to learn additional, more challenging repertoire)

Children accepted into the Chamber Ensemble have demonstrated the ability to: sing with confidence,  match pitch consistently, hold their part against another, and have the social and music skills necessary to be a part of a group preparing highly challenging repertoire in a short amount of time for local and touring performances.  Participation in this ensemble will improve their vocal production and performance skills through two and three part singing.  As appropriate, literature will be introduced that requires the ability to hear more dissonant harmonies.  In other words, the challenges will only increase, which is truly an exciting process!

The Audition:

The audition will include singing either Happy Birthday or America (My Country 'Tis of Thee), learning Are You Sleeping in a round, as well as echoing and reading rhythm and tonal patterns. Children not yet matching pitch consistently, but who are interested in learning and committing to weekly rehearsals, will be placed in the Community Choir.
